Hello again! Welcome to a new entry of NewsletterName. The previous edition was dedicated to telling you about our intentions and what we will be doing with this newsletter. Today, I will put our creed into practice; we will enter the world of superheroes and tell interesting facts for those who are passionate about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The most recent release of this franchise is Spider-Man: No Way Home (NWH), the third part of these stories featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Zendaya’s Mary-Jane. The producers promised an epic sequel to this collection, bigger than Avengers: Endgame, which is saying a lot (a lot!). Luckily, the MCU rarely falls short.
The past December, Spider-Man: NWH was released in theaters, and it turned out to be a before and after for those of us who have enjoyed it. It’s a classic Marvel story told with all the fanfare possible. The coincidence of several universes, the closeness between unusual characters and the redemption of many of them; a magic potion to hook us all.
For those of us who want more, we have some curious facts about the film series and its production. We’ll be careful not to spoil the story for you. However, if you haven’t seen this movie yet, better avoid reading point number 3.
1. Top Secret: For your eyes only
One of the great features of this movie was the barrage of theories (some conspiracy) that arose around the production. From every image of the shooting and video, fans created elaborate hypotheses. But, for the impact of the movie to be real, it was necessary that no theory were confirmed or refuted until the premiere.
Hence, the entire casting and production team were told to keep the script strictly secret. Marisa Tomei, the actress who plays Aunt May, says that the stress of keeping so many secrets was such that she ended up confessing everything to her therapist, with whom they were protected by patient-doctor confidentiality. If you’ve seen the film already, you will know that her stress was justified.
2. Romantic coincidences
So that you understand this curious fact, we will give you a little context. So far, there have been 3 Spider-Man universes.
- The first was the trilogy that had Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as Mary-Jane.
- The second starred Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.
- And the third is the current one with Holland and Zendaya.
One of the few things in common between these 3 mega-productions is that the leading couples in fiction ended up being couples in “real life”. In all 3 cases, the lead actors met on set, fell in love on set, and left set together. Although some of these pairings didn’t last long, there must be something mystical and romantic about Spider-Man that I haven’t noticed.
3. Suggestions and improvisations
If you liked NWH and have investigated as much as we have, you may already know the level of enthusiasm of Andrew Garfield, who has not stopped talking in interviews and networks about his happiness to be part of the production.
Much to his regret, countless times (and countless people) he had to lie and deny his participation. But once free of secrets, we have also learned of his small and important contributions.
For example, the sequence in which the 3 spideys stand in a circle and point at each other to wink at the popular meme that comes from the comic was suggested by the actor. Another great contribution was the now epic phrase “I love you guys” that Garfield’s Spider-Man says at a critical moment, and that was completely improvised by him.
I conclude by saying that Spider-Man: No Way Home is a movie that will undoubtedly go down as one of the highlights of the UCM.
Thank you very much for reading me, I hope you’ve enjoyed it. In the next post, we will continue talking about Zendaya, our current Mary-Jane. But it will be in a very different context, thanks to her role in the youth series that has us in love: HBO’s Euphoria. Until next week!
